Google to add Chrysler Pacifica minivans to its self-driving testing fleet

When you think of autonomous driving technology, your mind likely wanders to Google’s testing project. It’s safe to say the tech-giant is the leader in self-driving testing and ahead of the game with its technology. With testing projects currently taking place in California, Washington and Arizona, you’ll soon see more than just Google’s prototype vehicles navigating the roads; in fact, the testing project recently announced that it will add about 100 Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid minivans to its testing fleet.

“FCA has a nimble and experienced engineering team and the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid minivan is well-suited for Google’s self-driving technology,” said John Krafcik, Chief Executive Officer, Google Self-Driving Car Project in a press release. “The opportunity to work closely with FCA engineers will accelerate our efforts to develop a fully self-driving car that will make our roads safer and bring everyday destinations within reach for those who cannot drive.”

This is the first time that Google has worked directly with an automaker to integrate its self-driving system into a vehicle. Unfortunately, it’s nothing more than a testing project, so don’t expect to own one anytime soon. Luckily we have a number of great new models available in our showroom, including the 2017 Chrysler Pacifica.
