If there’s a theme emerging for the 2018 model year for Jeep®, it’s this: everything old is new again. That extends to the Jeep Wrangler, which will be entering its next generation. It’s also evident in two new arrivals based on old Jeep standbys: the 2018 Jeep Wrangler pickup and the 2018 Jeep Wagoneer. This week we’d like to share what we know about the upcoming revival of the Jeep Wagoneer, due at Jeep Chrysler Dodge of Ontario in mid-2017 for the 2018 model year.
The original Jeep Wagoneer was nicknamed “Woody” for its wood paneling. Its philosophy, at least in its early years, could be summed up by the fact that a compass was standard equipment but seat belts weren’t. You could leave the road far behind. But what was also unique about the Jeep Wagoneer was its luxury. There had been other SUVs before it debuted in 1963 — including 22 years’ worth of Jeep vehicles — but they’d emphasized ruggedness over creature comforts. The Jeep Wagoneer was the first vehicle to combine both, making it the first true luxury SUV.
That SUV had a thirty-year run, proving to be a massive success. Now, a quarter century after the last one was built, it’s being revived on the Jeep Grand Cherokee platform. It’ll be longer and larger, fitting in a third row of seats. It’ll have the same off-road capabilities, and the same luxury, that characterized the original. In other words, this is a Jeep Wagoneer in spirit and not just in name.
2018 is going to look a bit like a family reunion here at Jeep Chrysler Dodge of Ontario. The next-generation Jeep Wrangler and returning favorites like the Jeep Renegade and Jeep Grand Cherokee will be rejoined at long last by the refreshed Jeep Wrangler pickup and Jeep Wagoneer. We can’t wait, and if what we’re hearing from our Claremont customers is any indication, neither can many of you. Exciting times are just around the corner.
