The 2017 Dodge Challenger has been awarded the highest rating in the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA)’s vehicle-evaluation program for the fifth time, earning itself a five-star safety rating by undergoing a series of safety tests, including side-impact and pole tests. The collisions conducted with a pole and another car occurred at 32 miles per hour and 62 miles per hour, and the 2017 Dodge Challenger achieved five stars in both.
The new 2017 model Challenger has a wealth of safety and security features available (over 70!) including Electronic Stability Control (ESC), tire specific low pressure warning, and Forward Collision Warning (FCW) – a feature which detects if a front collision is about to happen and preemptively fills the brakes and activates audio and visual warnings for the driver. Another innovative feature of the 2017 Dodge Challenger is the Rear Cross Path (RCP) detection. RCP detection automatically activates as soon as the Challenger is put in reverse gear and will warn the driver of any rearward traffic when reversing out of a parking space.
As well as the 70+ safety features, the Challenger sports a 3.6-liter V6 engine, boasting 305 horsepower and 268 lb-ft of torque. It also has 16.2 cubic feet of space in the trunk and can carry up to 5 passengers with plenty of leg room (42 inches in the front) making this an ideal weekend vehicle as well as a great family car.
