FCA US has announced plans to expand the Jeep® product line with the addition of the Wagoneer, Grand Wagoneer, and a Pickup Truck on the back of a massive one-billion-dollar investment in the brand’s Warren, MI and Toledo, OH plants. The announcement shows continued efforts to increase production capacity in the US, specifically to meet rising demand for trucks and SUVs and will result in the creation of 2,000 new jobs.
Based on total annual vehicle sales, FCA is the seventh-largest automaker in the world and since 2009 has invested more than $9.6 billion, creating more than 25,000 jobs in the process. The addition of the Wagoneer, Grand Wagoneer, and pickup truck to the already hugely popular Jeep® brand goes a long way to solidifying its presence in the US, the manufacturing hub for all Jeep® vehicles.
The Wagoneer is not available until a later date but is set to be one of the most hotly anticipated additions to the SUV market in a while. The new, sleek design marks quite a departure from the traditional boxy shape Jeep® is famous for, although the model is still being refined and tweaked ahead of its launch, with a large dedicated staff working on the project.
Described by the brand’s officials as a “key pillar of our strategy,” the addition of the Wagoneer, the Grand Wagoneer, and pickup to the range is intended to continue internationalizing the Jeep® name. With demand for SUV at its peak and the current absence of a Jeep® pickup vehicle altogether, the models are sure to create a stir when they officially come to market.
